Andra Day – the Washington born songstress who has drawn comparisons to Eartha Kitt, Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday and Adele – is set to play New Orleans’ House of Blues on Monday March 7. Day’s most recent feature on the national stage was at the 58th Grammy Awards where she was nominated for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Album. Although she did not win in either category, the nominations speak to Day’s rising star as one of today’s most dynamic and distinguished R&B voices.
The now 31 year old singer honed her vocals at San Diego’s School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA). Some of her YouTube Music chart topping videos earned her the attention of Warner Bros. Records to which she would ultimately become signed as an artist. Day’s first album – Cheers to the Fall – features considerable production credits to Soulquarian era giants like Raphael Saadiq, Questlove and James Poyser. Other notable contributors include Adrian Gurvitz, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Dap Kings’ Sharon Jones.
Andra’s show at the New Orleans House of Blues will certainly not disappoint. Grab tickets here.
