A May 20 Plaintiff’s Steering Committee (PSC) press release reports that a settlement of $211,750,000 related to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill has been reached between the PSC and Transocean. The settlement follows a $4.5 Billion 2012 settlement between BP and the Department of Justice. PSC attorneys Stephen J. Herman and James P. Roy said in a statement “We applaud Transocean for adding to the settlement funds established in the Halliburton settlement to help compensate people and businesses for their losses.”
According to the PSC statement, Transocean’s liability to private plaintiffs and local municipalities under the Oil Pollution Act (OPA) and General Maritime Law will be fulfilled by this settlement, which will be overseen by Eastern District Louisiana Judge Carl A. Barbier.
