(By CityBusiness Staff Reports) Southern University at New Orleans has named James Ammons Jr. as its permanent chancellor.
Ammons has been serving as interim chancellor at SUNO since November 2019. He served as executive vice president and executive vice chancellor for the Southern University System and Southern University Baton Rouge. Ammons has also previously served as president of North Carolina Central University and Florida A&M University, respectively.
A native of Winter Haven, Florida, Ammons graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in political science from FAMU in 1974. He was awarded the M.S. in public administration in 1975, and a Ph.D. in government in 1977 from Florida State University. Read more here.
