(Technology Tell) – Stephen Colbert has revealed that the leader of his Late Show band is New Orleans’ own Jonathan Batiste, who Colbert has formally dubbed his “official music friend.” While that is a wonderful honor for Colbert to bestow on anyone given how well Colbert himself can sing, Batiste of course has had a few accomplishments before he landed the Late Show bandleader gig, even though at age 28 he should have like, no accomplishments.
Batiste started his professional career at age 8, playing percussion for the family act the Batiste Brothers Band. He switched to piano at age 11, released his first CD at age 17, trained at Julliard, and he plays a hooter! Or, a melodica. Batiste calls it his “harmonaboard,” but everyone should know what a hooter is by now.
Watch the video and look forward to distinctly excellent musicality of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS September 8, 2015.
