New Orleans Based JammAround Crowned IDEAPitch Winner

The 2022 New Orleans Entrepreneur Week welcomed some of the most promising business owners in the area and presented one start-up with a massive investment prize.

This year’s week-long festivities were extra special since it was the first year back since the COVID-19 pandemic forced its postponement. Nevertheless, the week went off without a hitch, launching on Monday, March 21st, with *NOEW in Your Neighborhood, a series of events hosted by the sponsors at several locations across New Orleans. Following that, entrepreneurs were invited to come together for a kick-off party at Hotel Saint Vincent. Tuesday was another introduction day, with programming taking place that afternoon, followed by a cocktail hour at Hotel Peter & Paul that night.

While the first two days were necessary for networking and meeting fellow entrepreneurs, the week got down to its true purpose on Wednesday with the Emerging Industries event. Doors opened at 8:00 a.m. The all-day workshop started with a #ClimateTech Mini-Summit at 9:00 a.m., followed by a lunch and networking break at noon, a Culture + Tech Mini-Summit at 1:00 p.m., and ended the night with NOEW at the Square. Thursday welcomed Built by Nola, with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Programming took place most of the day, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a unique job recruiting and happy hour mixer taking place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gallier Hall.

As the week progressed, all of the events led up to the main attraction, which was the monumental IDEApitch, a showcase for emerging start-ups in the New Orleans area. Three finalists were selected to pitch their companies to a panel of judges. This year, Jamm Around, Cluey Consumer, and Iconic Moments presented their start-up in just seven minutes, followed by ten minutes of questioning by the judges in hopes of landing a grand prize of $400,000 or $175,000 for each runner up. In the end, Jamm Around prevailed, taking home the $400,000 to invest in their company.

Jamm Around, a Black-owned company, is a service that connects producers, musicians, DJs, and audio engineers who are looking to collaborate. Birthed in New Orleans, Louisiana, by Brent Craige(CEO), Donovan Williams(CTO), and Marlon Butler (COO), Jamm Around is the product of a defunct album that the men were trying to put together. As they tried and failed to assemble artists from all over New Orleans, the friends realized that there was a need for a resource that could easily coordinate collaborative efforts among music creators. The service offers free and paid subscriptions to users and search tools to streamline the music networking process.

One of the unique qualities that made Jamm Around stand out amongst its competitors was the fact that it was launched within one year with no outside funding. Craig says that the service is on track to add over 30,000 users this year and be profitable within the next two years.
